This week I made my way to my Middle School placement in N Smithfeild, my cooperating teacher is Mrs. Hannah. My first visit was great she teachers all eigth graders and three out of the five classes has anywhere from 3-7 inclusion studnets. Mts. Hannah is a "tough teacher" she belives that since her students are in eighth grade there need to be less hand holding For example she won't nag students for missed work, and if a student comes for extra help they need a question, they can't say 'I don't get it.' However Mrs. Hannah does upgrade her grades regularly and inform the studnets every week and right befor a test were they are in the class. Mrs. Hannah is also very loud and she makes her presence known, but she is also very short and is the same height as all her students so she over compensates so the students are very clear on who is in charge. All of Mrs. Hannah's classes ran very smoothly and if a student does start to act out she quickly took charge. During a converstion Mrs. Hannah told me that if any student starts to act out to "squash them right away" she does not tolerate any nonsense. Even though Mrs. Hannah is tough all the students seem to like her, she has a lot of energy and has a unique way off being fuuny and stern at the same time.

When I am up in front of the classes I hope to develop a relationship witht the students that is respectful and they still enjoy as a teacher. However, the respect is more important than the students liking me. My goal is to be tough for the first few weeks and then hopefully the students will understand that I am in charge. I know the students will test me in the begining and if I don't catch them right away I will spend my class time trying to regain control. The important thing to me is for the studnets to understand that I have the same authority as their regular teacher. My goal is to be an effective teacher and depending on how the studnets interact with me will determine my teaching style.
